About Us!

We are quite happy that, you were visiting our website. Ours is a voluntary organization and working from G.K.Veedhi since 2001 by taking up various programs needed to these tribal communities in the agency area of G.K.Veedhi, Chintapalli & Koyyuru Mandals as well as urban areas of Narsipatnam, Golugonda, Kotauratla, Rolugunta & Makavarapalem Mandals in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. We mainly focused on Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs), Schedule Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SCs) and rural poor.

This is a remote agency area, covered with hills, curves, Valleys and greenery. You would be quite happy and enjoy like anything while touring, here & there you can find the water falls too. Various sects of tribal people were residing. Of course, some of them were migrants from Orissa. Throughout the year weather seems to be chilled, during nights we need to cover bed sheets while sleeping. Thus, this place is known as 2nd Ooty. This is 170 K.Ms away from Visakhapatnam and the interested can come by road. People coming from Hyderabad can come up to Tuni by Train, later they should reach the destination by road only.

People in the area depend on cultivation, Labour & collection of Non Timber Forest Produce (NTDP) such as Tamarind, Gooseberry, Adda leaf, Broomsticks, Honey etc. They produce Paddy, Pulses, Maize, Beans and a small quantum of Millets as well as commercial crops such as Coffee, Turmeric & Zinger. This is a Malaria prone area and hospitals are far to their dwellings/habitations. Literacy rate is very poor and the entire communities need to strive for their daily bread.

People draw the waters from canals, here and there open wells. No potable drinking water, so that these communities suffer a lot during rainy season with various diseases, many of them suffer a lot with appetite at times normally they eat the roots of palm tree and the Mango kernel. Thus, such instances leading to diarrhea and remains problematic. No water for irrigation, people have to pray the God for rains.

Focus on Agriculture & its implements: In the beginning itself we clearly stated that, the tribal communities in the area to the large extent depend upon cultivation. Days having been changed, we are finding a tremendous change in all sectors; agriculture is also one of it. Since these farmers are used to come with us as a part & parcel of NABARD programs to the N.G.Ranga Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Chintapalli, Visakhapatnam district and having interaction with those Scientists on various crops, method of cultivation, on time application of fertilizers, steps to be taken up while harvesting etc. Gradually these farmers improved the rapport with these Scientists, vis-a-versa they have seen various agricultural implements at RARS and expressed their interests during the meetings to buy its kind for their agriculture development.

It has been discussed in several meetings in their villages and finally come to a conclusion to pool required amount to buy those agricultural implements for easy cultivation, save the time & manpower. Farmers brought this issue into our notice during the Farmers Clubs meetings & VDC meetings. Later, we again approached the RARS, noted the details and address to purchase the agriculture implements/accessories. As such we purchased implements/accessories, kept at our office and asked the interested youth among those communities to learn and expedite the same in their agricultural fields. Many of the interested learn and kept in practice.

Prior to taking away these machines to their fields/villages, we organized a meeting with all these members’ and charges etc has been discussed, finalized and prepared a list of things to be followed. After that, the farmers began giving these implements/accessories to the required farmers. These implements are useful and needed to these communities. Farmers felt happy and now the things are going well.

Farmers Clubs: NABARD has brought the concept of formation of ’Farmers Clubs’ to help the people in the villages in all respects. To the maximum extent it was materialized and formed FCs in many places and the outcome of those FCs been brought out in the form of a Book-let by NABARD every year. We have discussed with NABARD authorities and requested them to sanction a few FCs to our institution. They agreed and sanctioned 6 FCs in 2009-10 and gradually considered up to 30 FC during 2012-13.

The list of the FCs is as follows:

In the above said 30 FCs, we have conducted Basic Level Orientation Training Program (BLOTP), created motivation & awareness among these farmers about the necessity and advantages of these Farmers Clubs. As per the norms organized Meet with Experts programs minimum 2 times in a year at each and every FC. It has given good impact among the communities. Since, these communities have developed the rapport with the N.G.Ranga Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Chintapalli; they were able to get Birds, Pippallamodu, Turmeric, Zinger etc at free cost and learned many more things from the Scientists of the above. These farmers were able to approach the bankers at Chintapalli for loaning. Based on the past experience and the services extending by the institution, NABARD appreciated our endeavour and again sanctioned 20 more FCs very recently based on our request, which begins from 2013-14. This time we proposed to take up these FCs at Chintapalli Mandal possibly for Pineapple farmers. In case, the minimum number is not enough then we will throw the light on other farmers.

We have already began BLOTP in the villages, planned for inaugural and may be completed in due course of time. All these years’ communities/local people depend on political parties or an educated person to express their views in front of an official. When, we initiated a Farmers club in such & such a village people can directly intervene in the activities and openly speak with anybody else. What we expected from the people in remote agency area is this. To some extent we succeeded and reaching the destination, we are on the way, hope we can.
